MEDICAL DEFINITIONS

Insights Worth Knowing

Countless medical write-ups that have been published in various medical journals worldwide on the effectiveness of these ingredients as immune boosters, anti-inflammatory, anti-oxidant, anti-cancer, and other medical benefits. Here are some of the prominent insights.

Anti-Inflammatory

Inflammation is an inward reaction from the body, that provides an immediate response following an injury to repair and regenerate the living tissue.  When you’re living with chronic inflammation, your body’s inflammatory response can eventually start damaging healthy cells, tissues, and organs.  Over time, this can lead to DNA damage, tissue death, and internal scarring.  All of these are linked to the development of several diseases, including cancer.

Anti-inflammatory is the property of a substance that block certain other substances in the body that cause inflammation, pain and swelling.  Health experts recommend that a diet rich in anti-oxidants as well as staying hydrated with enough water are great ways to reduce inflammation in the body.  Water is specifically recommended because it can flush toxins and other irritants out of the body.

Anti-inflammatory dietary eating includes:
1. Plant-based food
2. Food with high antioxidants
3. Omega-3s
4. Reduce intake of red meat

Our main ingredient, Turmeric (Curcuma Longa) has active component called curcumin, that gives the spice its yellow colour. Curcumin has anti-inflammatory properties, making it a potential treatment for a number of health conditions, including reduced pain and increased ease of movement in people with osteoarthritis.

Red Ginger as our second most important ingredient, contains many phenolic compounds such as gingerol, shogaol and paradol that are antioxidants, anti-inflammatory, anti-tumour and antibacterial.  Studies show that it also helps ease severe inflammation associated with rheumatoid arthritis.

Honey is used in our ingredient as natural sweetener, but also an anti-inflammatory, antioxidant and antibacterial agent.  People commonly use honey orally to treat coughs and topically to treat burns and promote wound healing.

Antioxidant

The substances that act against oxidants are called antioxidants. Antioxidants thus minimize the damage caused by oxidants.  Antioxidants protect our cells against free radicals, which play a role in cardio vascular disease, cancer and cataract.  Free radicals are molecules produced when your body breaks down food or when you’re exposed to tobacco smoke or radiation.

Antioxidants are known to slow down the effect of ageing.  Glutathione is the most powerful and important among the antioxidants our body produces. It’s a combination of three amino acids that tackles ageing through the intestines and circulatory system.

Antioxidants have the capability to counteract the action of oxidants by scavenging reactive oxygen species (ROS) and by inhibiting oxidant generating enzymes.  Overproduction of ROS and deprivation of antioxidant systems play a major role in COVID-19 occurrence, progression, and severity.

Antioxidants are mostly found in plant foods which are rich in Vitamin C, Vitamin E and β – Caroten.  They are natural molecules that help neutralize harmful free radicals in our bodies.  A diet high in antioxidants may reduce the risk of many diseases (including heart disease and certain cancers).  Antioxidants scavenge free radicals from the body cells and prevent or reduce the damage caused by oxidation.

The protective effect of antioxidants continues to be studied around the world.

Anti-Ageing

According to Immunological theory, aging is caused by changes in hormones, that are produced by the endocrine system.  The decline in immune response results into disease and aging.

There are two main groups of agents that can be used as anti-aging components, the antioxidants and the cell regulators. The antioxidants, such as vitamins, polyphenols and flavonoids, reduce collagen degradation by reducing the concentration of FR in the tissues.

Curcumin which is the main active compound in turmeric (curcuma longa) has been shown to possess powerful cellular protective properties, which are attributed to its potent antioxidant effects.  A process called cellular senescence occurs when cells stop dividing.  As you age, senescent cells accumulate, which is believed to accelerate aging and disease progression.  Research demonstrates that curcumin activates certain proteins that help delay cellular senescence and promote longevity.  Plus, animal studies demonstrate that curcumin combats cellular damage and significantly increases life span.  This compound has been shown to postpone age-related disease and alleviate age-related symptoms as.  This may be why turmeric/curcuma intake is associated with a reduced risk of age-related cognitive decline in humans.

Turmeric/curcuma also has over 34 different essential oils present in its composition. These essential oils help to boost turmeric’s anti-aging along with its anti-inflammatory properties. They include turmerone, atlantone, zingiberene and germacrone. These oils enhance turmeric’s natural benefits, and can also make it a more powerful agent for fighting inflammation and disease.

According to a study published in the Asia Pacific Journal of Clinical Nutrition, turmeric have shown to prevent DNA damage and help DNA repair. Therefore, turmeric/curcuma is indeed good for preventing disease and slowing down the ageing process. Other studies also suggest that natural constituents of turmeric/curcuma – especially curcumin possess particularly strong antioxidant activity, and directly reduce skin aging by preventing moisture loss and protecting against wrinkles.

One of the greatest benefits of taking advantage of anti-aging treatments is improved self-confidence. When a person looks good, they feel good. Maintaining a refreshed, attractive appearance can help a person live life to the fullest.

Anti-Coagulant

Anticoagulant is medical term used describing substances that has blood thinning properties.  Curcumin is an active ingredient in turmeric (curcuma longa) that  have anti-inflammatory and blood-thinning or anticoagulant properties.  Medical Research data indicated that curcumin successfully prolonged aPTT and PT, strongly correlating with many of today’s blood thinners.  Curcumin also significantly inhibited the generation of thrombin and FXa. Therefore, these findings suggest turmeric possess natural anticoagulant activities.

Red Ginger is another anti-inflammatory spice that may stop blood clotting. It contains a natural acid called salicylate. Aspirin (acetylsalicylic acid) is a synthetic derivative of salicylate and a potent blood thinner.

Both Turmeric/curcuma and Red Ginger are used as the main ingredients of Jamu Kraton Asli, providing natural blood thinning agent to our body.  Thus, Jamu Kraton Asli provides immediate remedy for ladies with menstruation disorder.  As for gentlemen, Jamu Kraton Asli would make them energetic, feeling fresh, and stimulate virility.

Anti-Cancer

Most ingredients used in Jamu Kraton Asli have been proven by various medical studies to have anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, antiandrogenic, and anticancer effects.  This includes the main ingredients turmeric (curcuma longa), red ginger, and black pepper as well as its supporting ingredients such as tamarind, honey, and mango.

Studies show that curcumin in turmeric/curcuma may block cancer cells from multiplying, kill cancer cells, and slow tumour growth.  Curcumin has shown considerable anticancer effects against several different types of cancer, including prostate cancer, breast cancer, colorectal cancer, pancreatic cancer, and head and neck cancer both in vitro and in vivo.

Red ginger contains abundant gingerol and zingerone which can help lower the risk of getting cancer.  Medical studies show that long term consumption of red ginger can help prevent cancer based on its exhibited antioxidant and anticancer activity.

Black pepper on the other hand contains anti-oxidant piperine. A study conducted in Michigan’s cancer institute concluded that black pepper along with turmeric can prevent the growth of cancerous stem cells in breast tumours.  Piperine also alters the redox homeostasis in a cell and tissue specific way to retard cancer development and inhibits the cancer stem cells (CSCs) self-renewal.

Immune Booster

An Immune System is a complex network of cells, tissues, organs, and the substances they make that helps the body fight infections and other diseases. The immune system includes white blood cells and organs and tissues of the lymph system, such as the thymus, spleen, tonsils, lymph nodes, lymph vessels, and bone marrow.

Medical studies have found that antioxidant supplementation can significantly improve certain immune responses. Specifically, supplementation with vitamins C, E, and A or beta-carotene increased the activation of cells involved in tumour immunity.

Black pepper is a storehouse of vitamin C, which is the best immunity-boosting nutrients that is even used in many modern medicines. Vitamin A is another important ingredient that gives black pepper strong medicinal properties. Both these vitamins are known to strengthen the immune systems.  Black pepper also aids in absorption of nutrients and eliminates toxins effectively from the body. Active compounds in black pepper especially piperine have a role in boosting white blood cells, which your body uses to fight off invading bacteria and viruses.

Red Ginger is known for its strong anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effects, thus a good booster for the immune systems.  It has an active component called Gingerol, that makes it a perfect immunity booster.

Weight Loss

Weight loss occurs when you burn more calories than you consume.  In other words, you can achieve weight loss by eating less or perform more exercises or both.  However, consuming certain food and drinks that are rich in antioxidants can increase your metabolism rates, thus burn fat and results into better control of your weight management.  Jamu Kraton Asli is made up of ingredients that are packed with antioxidants especially turmeric (curcuma longa), red ginger and black pepper.   Loaded with the alkaloid piperine, black pepper ups your metabolism and burns unwanted calories to reduce belly fat.

Curcumin, a compound in turmeric is known to suppress particular inflammatory markers that play a role in obesity. These markers are typically elevated in people with excess weight or obesity.  Animal studies indicate that this compound may promote weight loss, reduce fat tissue growth, curb weight regain, and enhance your sensitivity to the hormone insulin.  A review of 21 studies in over 1,600 people linked curcumin intake to reduced weight, BMI, and waist circumference. It also noted increased levels of adiponectin, a hormone that helps regulate your metabolism.

Red Ginger also stimulates digestion, and suppresses your appetite. These properties lead some people to believe that ginger may promote weight loss.  Many medical literatures indicate that ginger can work along with a healthy diet and exercise to help you reach a healthy weight.

Acacia is a water soluble fibre that curbs cravings and it can help you feel full for a longer period of time. This might lead to weight loss and reduced cholesterol levels.
